Milestone was the contractor for the Barbara Lawrence Alfond Library at Holderness School. The unique library design by the architectural firm of Lavallee/Brensinger PA of Manchester presented many challengers. The building included many unique features, not the least of which was a conical tower and second floor meeting room. The building included a library reading room, study rooms, three language classrooms, and a computer and technical services lab.

The unique architecture, which presented many different materials and features, was constructed to the highest quality standards by the Milestone craftsmen. During construction, the owner encountered a severe problem, when it was discovered that the access road was sitting over what was found to be an old dumpsite.

Initial estimates of the amount of material to be removed, were found to be enormous and the removal of all of the material was not feasible. Working with the site engineers on numerous options, a rip rap sloped design was developed as the most cost effective means of building the road and saving the owner literally tens of thousands of dollars. AIA-NH awarded the project a design excellence award.
