Curtis L. Ivey Science Center
Challenges
Milestone Engineering & Construction, Inc. was the construction manager of the Curtis L. Ivey Science Center at Colby Sawyer College in New London, New Hampshire. This 32,000 square foot life science building was designed by Dignard Architectural Services. Working with Colby Sawyer College and Dignard Architectural Services in the early stages of the project, Milestone developed the preliminary estimates with the college for fundraising and worked with the college over a three-year period as fundraising and design developed.
A focal point of the Colby Sawyer College campus, the building needed to be designed on a very tight budget and be ready for school occupancy in August of 2004. The building design included conventional structural steel framing with concrete decks and a structural steel stud roof rafter framing.
The design needed to incorporate architectural brick detailing with white clapboard accents to compliment the surrounding educational and residential buildings of the area. The project was brought in on time and under budget.
